Utility functions
So today, my microeconomics professor provided this jewel of a (mis)quote while illustrating the concept of utility:I'm well-dressed, but I'm starving ... I would gladly trade my clothing for some food ... Anything you impoverished undergraduates eat regularly.I'm the only person in the class who isn't an econ major, so I try not to call attention to myself because I don't want to be hated (the popular perception seems to be that you have to be crazy to take calculus-based economics for fun). But everyone else was just sitting there straight-faced, and me? I was giggling uncontrollably.
Why? Because the prof is cute in a geeky kind of way (the way I looooove :) ), and all I could imagine was whipping the granola bar out of my backpack, tossing it at him, and yelling, "WOO! Take it OFF!"
