Wow. I am truly horrible at this blogging stuff. Ever since our router broke, I'm rarely online enough to read, let alone write. I miss you guys!On the job front:
20+ applications rejected. Nine open applications. One interview scheduled at the Evil*Empire. I hope I get it, but even if I do, I'm still looking for a(nother) job.
I'm also back to working with Dr. Way-Too-Generous on something we started three years ago. I wrote a program that would test students on vocabulary words from a textbook his PhD advisor co-authored, and Dr. WTG sat on it knowing there would be a new edition of the book. But now he can't get it to work, and it's been so long since I looked at it that I can't even remember how it worked. This ought to be fun.
On the home front:
Guy Friday and I were looking for a place of our own, but my chronic joblessness has thwarted our progress. Plus, we can't find a place willing to accept our rambunctious 70-pound lapdog. So we've worked it out with his family that once I have a job we'll help pay the utilities and do some cooking and cleaning in exchange for a place to live.
Guy Friday's grandma, who owns the house the family lives in, turned 79 on Tuesday. I didn't learn of this fact until Thursday. So I made a nice cake and we got her some roses and chocolate. Now she's all happy and keeps hinting at us that she could really use an eleventh great-grandchild.
My younger cousin had her first child on May 21, and The Friends are expecting very soon. So needless to say, I'm green with envy and would love to get working on that little favor for Grandma, but we both know we're nowhere near the point where having a baby would be feasible. I mean, we're still working on the whole getting married thing (wedding website here, if you're interested--I know that some people who know us read this blog), and neither one of us has really finished school yet.
And one for the "I'm an idiot" files:
I accidentally locked my keys in the car today. Then panicked and tore the (already very loose) trim off my window to try to jimmy the lock. I almost had it--I heard the little click that it makes when it unlocks manually--but I got so excited I jumped and lost it. After that, my luck went sour and I ended up calling the professionals.

I locked the keys in my car once, while it was running. That was special. It was a very hot day, and so, after getting out, I changed my mind, got back in, and started the car to crack the windows. Then I hit the lock on the door and got out. That was fun. Thankfully, I was parked outside of JC Penney, and went inside to get a hangar, to roll down the window and get back in. That was one of the first times Chris heard me swear! :)

Goodness gracious! You swore? I'll have to try to remember to leave a window partially down from now on. Small-town life unfortunately encourages leaving the keys in the car without worrying about them, and this wasn't the first time I had almost done that. :P
